Senator Lindsey Graham has found himself in hot water after an edited video surfaced showing him seemingly celebrating the deaths of Russian troops. The video, which was posted on Twitter by a user with the handle "@Safebelow," shows Senator Graham speaking in front of a crowd, saying, "I'm so glad that 100,000 Russian soldiers have been killed fighting in Syria."
The full video, which was released by the senator's office, shows him actually saying the opposite of what the edited video suggests. In the full video, he says, "I'm so sad that 100,000 Russian soldiers have been killed fighting in Syria, but I'm glad they were fighting against our enemies and not against us."
While the edited video is clearly misleading, it has sparked outrage among some who believe that the senator's comments are inappropriate. In response, Senator Graham issued a statement condemning the video and asserting that he would never celebrate the deaths of any soldiers.
"I do not condone the edited video that is circulating on social media," he said. "I would never celebrate the deaths of any soldiers, whether they are American or Russian. This edited video is a shameful attempt to smear my reputation and distort my views on foreign policy."
