Anticipation Meets Reality
I upgraded to AirPods Pro 3 on day one, and my experience has been a little more complicated than I expected so far. The buzz surrounding the latest iteration of Apple's popular wireless earbuds had reached a fever pitch, with promises of superior sound quality, enhanced features, and a sleeker design. As a long-time AirPods user, I was excited to see what the AirPods Pro 3 had in store.
However, as I delved into using the AirPods Pro 3 in my day-to-day activities, I found that the reality of the upgrade was a bit more nuanced than the initial hype suggested. Here's a closer look at my experiences with the AirPods Pro 3 after one month of use.
Design and Comfort
The first thing that struck me about the AirPods Pro 3 was the design. Apple had made some subtle but significant changes to the overall look of the earbuds, with a slightly smaller profile and redesigned stem. While the AirPods Pro 3 still retained the iconic white color and sleek aesthetic, I found that the new design felt even more comfortable in my ears, especially during extended wear.
Apple's decision to include multiple ear tips with the AirPods Pro 3 was a welcome addition, as it allowed me to find the perfect fit for my ears. The silicone ear tips not only enhanced the overall comfort of the earbuds but also improved sound isolation, creating a more immersive listening experience.
Audio Quality and Performance
One of the main reasons I decided to upgrade to the AirPods Pro 3 was the promise of superior audio quality. Apple touted improved sound performance with dynamic drivers and a redesigned acoustic architecture. After putting the AirPods Pro 3 through their paces with a variety of musical genres, podcasts, and videos, I can confidently say that the audio quality has indeed taken a step up.
The bass response was punchier, the mids were more pronounced, and the highs were clearer and more detailed. Whether I was listening to my favorite tunes or taking calls, the AirPods Pro 3 delivered a rich and immersive sound experience that exceeded my expectations.
Active Noise Cancellation and Transparency Mode
One of the standout features of the AirPods Pro 3 is the active noise cancellation technology. With a new Adaptive EQ feature and improved ANC capabilities, the earbuds promised to block out external noise and provide a focused listening experience. In practice, I found that the ANC performance of the AirPods Pro 3 was impressive, effectively reducing ambient noise in various environments.
On the flip side, the Transparency Mode on the AirPods Pro 3 allowed me to stay aware of my surroundings while listening to music or engaging in calls. The seamless transition between ANC and Transparency Mode was a welcome convenience, making it easy to switch between immersive listening and ambient awareness without missing a beat.
Connectivity and Controls
Apple has always excelled in providing a seamless user experience with its products, and the AirPods Pro 3 were no exception. The earbuds connected effortlessly to my iPhone and other Apple devices, thanks to the H1 chip's fast pairing and stable connection. I appreciated the smooth transition between my devices, allowing me to switch between music playback on my iPhone and watching videos on my iPad without missing a moment.
The touch controls on the AirPods Pro 3 were intuitive and responsive, giving me easy access to playback, volume adjustments, and activating Siri. While I initially had some trouble getting used to the new force sensor design for controlling playback and ANC modes, I soon found myself navigating the controls with ease.
Battery Life and Charging
One of the areas where the AirPods Pro 3 fell a bit short for me was the battery life. While Apple claimed up to 6 hours of listening time on a single charge with ANC enabled, I found that my actual usage varied depending on the volume level and ANC settings. On average, I was able to get around 4 to 5 hours of listening time before needing to recharge the earbuds.
The MagSafe-compatible charging case of the AirPods Pro 3 offered a convenient way to top up the battery both wired and wirelessly. I appreciated the fast charging capabilities of the case, which provided additional hours of listening time with just a few minutes of charging. However, I did wish for a longer battery life to reduce the frequency of charging intervals.
